What Is SEO and Why It’s Important For Your Business?

When I first started delving into internet marketing, one of the most appealing aspects was that I could start an online business with virtually no financial investment. Everything was a “do-it-yourself” program and all of the internet hot shots claimed you could do it yourself and do it for free.

Being a lifelong entrepreneur, who had literally taught myself how to succeed in several lucrative ventures including real estate and day trading, I was confident this would be a snap! I had owned and managed brick and mortar companies and have a good understanding of how to operate a successful business. I knew what my product was going to be, I knew how to get a website going, and had a lot of experience in sales. But, there were crickets chirping when I opened my virtual doors.

How was I supposed to get people to find my online store? I had to ask, “Can I Learn SEO”?

On my website, I provide a way to simplify understanding what is SEO and showing you how to learn the process so that you can market your own website or blog. You can read more about understanding SEO in our training section.

A Basic Overview of what is SEO Marketing

Okay, so let me give you the nitty-gritty basics so you can learn SEO. It stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means writing content on your website that will make search engines rank your page higher than your competition when people search for keywords.

For example, if someone types “Las Vegas catering” into Google to search for this type of business, the pages that are “optimized” will be first on the list.

You want this for obvious reasons.

The perception is the first ranked pages are usually the best choice. Google and other search engines create algorithms that search content to find the best page for their customers—which are the general public using their search engine.

If their search results rank poor content, their customers will find other search engines to use. Optimizing is basically following their requirements for website content so that you will get higher ranking. While understanding what is SEO may seem complicated, it’s quite simple once you get the hang of it. And, if you digest it one bite at a time, you’ll get it in no time.
